How Does It Work

The Surinder Singh Route is a rather simple process, in theory.  The Singh Route can work for any EEA (European Economic Area) National, who wishes to get their family member into their country of origin (or Nationality).  Also refered to as Family Reunification in some EEA (European Economic Area) Member states.

In the UK’s Legislation, The Immigration (European Economic Area) Regulations 2006 is where Directive 2004/38/EC is brought into the legislation.  If you are at this website we assume that you are already aware of Directive 2004/38/EC, but if not, we highly recommend that you take a look at the following source of information: EU Movement Blog.  To avoid a lot of duplicate content, and to create “Central Repositories” of information, we will aim to link directly to other sources of information where necessary – by doing this, we in no way make any claims on the information on those websites.

So, just as the method of an EEA National coming to the United Kingdom to work.  The same rules apply for British Citizens to go and work in another EEA Member state.

The European Commission has actually produced Guidance for Excersising Free Movement rights.  It is very worthwhile reading, along with the EU Movement Blog Guidance.
